PDF BoxAUBURNDALE, Fla. – Lewis baseball closed their annual spring trip on Saturday (March 5) afternoon with a 9-6 setback to Walsh.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring with two runs in the first. They extended their lead to 4-0 after another two-spot in the third. The Cavaliers cruised from that point forward.
All of Lewis' offense came in the ninth inning. Freshman
Matt McCauley (Oakville, Mo./St. John Vianney) started the frame with a pinch-hit home run. It was not only his first career home run, but also his first career hit. Three batters later, senior
Joe Sparacio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) knocked in two runs with a triple to center field. He came around on a single by freshman
Alex Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg). McCauley came up again and knocked in two more runs with a single. Lewis' rally ended with runners on first and second in the ninth.
Junior
Alex Shake (Glasford, Ill./Canton) suffered the loss for the Flyers. He allowed seven hits and four runs with five strikeouts and no walks in 3.0 innings. He is now 0-1. Seth Robinson earned the win for Walsh. He is 2-1.
Walsh improves to 3-5. Lewis falls to 4-4. The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (March 12) in the start of a four-game two-day series at Truman State. The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA DII World Series last season. Truman State is a Great Lakes Valley Conference team, however the games will be non-conference contests.Â
