Clermont, Fla. -
Lewis University sophomore left fielder Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch to help the Flyers to the 2-1 (8 inn.) regional victory over Northwood at The Spring Games on Saturday (March 5) morning at Legends Way 2 Field.

Prieto, who was placed on second base due to international tiebreaker criteria, moved over to third base on a sacrifice bunt by junior shortstop Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and scored on a Casey Brown wild pitch.

With the win, Lewis improves to 9-7 overall, while the Timberwolves drop to 0-1 on the campaign.

Prieto went 3-for-4 for the Flyers and scored both of their runs. Freshman third baseman Jessica Lofthouse (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) went 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Lewis freshman pitcher Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. Fossey (2-2) came on in relief of Flyer starting pitcher Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) in the seventh inning. Schweickert allowed one run and two hits in 6.2 innings of work, while fanning six batters.

Schweickert, however, issued six walks, including a lead-off free pass to second baseman Ashley Lynn in the seventh inning with the Flyers leading 1-0.

Lynn moved over to second base on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Jessica Tostrud and on to third on a Schweickert wild pitch. The Timberwolves tied the game at 1-apiece on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Riley Ostapowicz.

Brown (0-1) took the loss for the Timberwolves, allowing two runs and nine hits in eight innings of work, while striking out two batters.
