INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis out-hit No. 19 Indianapolis in both contests on Saturday (April 2) afternoon in a road Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader, but the Flyers fell by scores of 17-9 and 8-7. The Flyers were hurt by three errors in each game. The game one loss snapped a 10-game win streak.
"We didn't do the simple things well enough today that you have to do in order to beat good teams," Lewis head coach
Tim McDonough said. "Walks and errors were the difference today and we knew going in with the weather playing a factor that we were going to have to play clean to win."
Wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour were recorded in the area.

Lewis was first on the board in game one, thanks to an RBI single by junior
Austin Schultz (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) in the second. The Greyhounds followed with seven runs in the bottom of the third and 10 in the fourth. Only two of the runs in the fourth were earned.
The Greyhounds' 17-straight runs came eight days after the Flyers scored 17 consecutive runs against UW-Parkside.
Despite the 17-1 deficit, Lewis' offense responded with eight runs. Sophomore
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) and senior
Joe Sparacio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) each had three hits in the game. Sparacio and junior
Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) each homered.
Jake Herron (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) is now 3-2 after suffering the loss in 2.1 innings of work. Indianapolis' Matthew Kaplanis is a perfect 6-0 after earning the win following the requisite 5.0 innings pitched.
Game Two – Indianapolis 8, Lewis 7 (HTML Box | PDF Box)
Just like the opener, Lewis was the first to score in game two. This time it was an RBI double by sophomore
Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) to knock home Tyrell. But Indianapolis put a three-run first together thanks in part to two Flyers errors.
The Flyers knotted the game at four in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by the reigning GLVC Player of the Week
Kurt Becker (Palatine, Ill./Palatine). His shot to right field scored senior
Austin Mastela (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport).
Indianapolis went up 7-4 in the bottom half of the inning on a bases clearing double by Kyle Orloff. The Greyhounds' rally in the fourth started after the first two batters in the inning were retired.
On a windy day in the Circle City, the game's momentum swung back toward the Flyers in the next half inning. Mastela, Becker and Schultz each knocked in a run in the frame as Lewis tied it at seven thanks to four singles in the inning.
The rally would be for naught after the Greyhounds went ahead for good with a single run in the sixth of the seven-inning game. The Flyers had a chance in the seventh, but saw the game end with runners stranded at second and third.
The Flyers out-hit the Greyhounds 11-6.
"I thought we swung the bats well in both games against two good pitchers," McDonough said. "We played with effort throughout the day."
Senior
Phil Warner (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) took the loss in his first decision of the season. Dylan Stutsman pitched the final two innings to get the win for Indianapolis and move his record to 2-0.
The Greyhounds improve to 18-6 (5-1 GLVC) with the wins. Lewis falls to 14-7 (4-2 GLVC). The two clubs will close out their four-game GLVC series on Sunday (April 3) in a noon ET doubleheader at Greyhound Park.
