Plainfield, Ill. - The No. 39 Lewis University men's tennis team got back in the win column with an 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's on Friday (April 8) at the Five Star Tennis Center.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in GLVC action, while the Pumas fall to 4-8 on the campaign and 0-1 in conference play.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' No. 14 ranked tandem of junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) won 8-2 over SJC's Reid Imel and Andrew Klump. Srdanovic added a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Imel at No. 1 singles, while Braschinsky blanked Samir Shammas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Flyer sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) teamed up at No. 2 doubles for the 8-6 win over SJC's Valentin Meier and Moritz Gisy. Norasith defeated Klump 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Peterson won 7-5, 7-5 over Gisy at No. 4 singles.
Lewis' freshman duo of
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) earned the 8-3 victory over SJC's Lucas Jessen and Joseph Comerford at No. 3 doubles. Levitin added a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jessen at No. 6 singles.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday (April 9), as they host Indianapolis for a GLVC matchup. First serve is set for 11 AM at the Five Star Tennis Center.Â
