ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 13 Lewis men's volleyball used a team effort to sweep No. 8 Ball State (25-22, 25-19, 25-13) on Friday (April 8) evening at Neil Carey Arena in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association contest.

Freshmen Julian Moses (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International School) and Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) each had 10 kills. Senior Will McCall (Fellsmere, Fla./Sebastian River) added six kills and nine digs.

"Will (McCall) really did a nice job," Lewis head coach Dan Friend said. "He stepped in and controlled the service line. Other guys put themselves in position to score points as Julian and Mitch got better as the match went on."

The Flyers held a 7-4 edge in aces. Their pressure forced Ball State to make a libero switch in the third set.

"Ultimately the best thing we did (tonight) was the service pressure," Friend said.

The win was Friend's 100th MIVA win of his career.

The closest set was the first which featured six ties and a pair of lead changes. Ball State held a 19-17 lead when Lewis scored three straight points to go up 20-19. It was part of a 5-1 run to give the Flyers the lead for good. Moses had a kill on set point to finish the frame.

In the second, Lewis grabbed a 7-4 and never looked back. The third set saw the Flyers go up 3-0 and never give up the lead. Ball State scored consecutive points only one time in the third set.

Lewis out-hit Ball State .299 to .087. The Flyers held a 31-28 edge in digs with freshman Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) recording eight.

Ball State falls to 20-7 and 12-3 in the MIVA. Lewis improves to 16-12 and 9-6 in conference play. Lewis welcomes IPFW to Romeoville on Saturday (April 9) in the regular season finale for both clubs. First serve at Neil Carey Arena is set for 7 p.m.  It will be Senior Night for the Flyers.
