University Park, Penn. - The No. 8 Lewis University men's volleyball team hit .293 (54 kills, 18 errors, 123 attacks) as a team and .478 (38-5-69) in their three set wins, as the Flyers earned the 28-26, 25-14, 16-25, 19-25, 15-9 non-conference victory over Penn State University at Rec Hall on Friday (Jan. 20) night.
Lewis redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and redshirt sophomore opposite
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) combined for 32 of those kills and a hitting percentage of .382 (32-6-68) in the victory.
Coenen had a match-high 17 kills and hit .361 (17-4-36), while Perinar totaled 15 putaways and compiled a hitting percentage of .406 (15-2-32). Both players had three block assists.
With the win, Lewis improves to 4-1 on the campaign, while the host Nittany Lions drop to 3-3.
Flyer sophomore
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) dished out a match-high 51 assists, while redshirt sophomore libero
Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) had a team-high nine digs.
Lewis finished with 13.5 blocks (1 solo) on the evening, led by seven block assists from senior middle blocker
John Hodul (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg). Hodul performed well on the offensive end, with six kills and a hitting percentage of .462 (6-0-13).
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 21), as the Flyers head to Loretta, Penn., for a 7 PM ET meeting with St. Francis (PA).
