Loretto, Penn. - Saturday Jan. 21 the No. 8 Lewis University men's volleyball team defeated Saint Francis University 25-21, 25-22, 27-29, 17-25, 15-11. The Flyers hit .375 (60 kills, 12 errors, 128 attacks) while the Red Flash hit .264 (62 kills, 28 errors, 129 attacks).

Lewis redshirt sophomore opposite Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) had a match-high 27 kills on 46 attacks and only five errors leading to a .478 hitting percentage. Lewis sophomore setter Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) contributed 49 assists.

Defensively freshmen Kyle Bugee (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) and redshirt senior Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) both had seven blocks for the match, while senior John Hodul (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) pitched in six blocks. Redshirt sophomore libero Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) had a team-high eight digs.

The Flyers improve to 5-1 with the win, while SFU drop to 3-4.  

Lewis next competition will be Jan. 27 and 29 to compete at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
