Phoenix, Ariz. - Lewis University's six-match winning streak came to an end as Grand Canyon collected the 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association victory over the No. 6 Flyer men's volleyball team at Antelope Gym on Sunday (Jan. 29). The loss comes two days after the Flyers handed Grand Canyon a five-game defeat.
Lewis freshman outside hitter
Kyle Bugee (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) recorded a match-high 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .419 (17 kills, 4 errors, 31 attacks) to lead the Flyers. Senior middle blocker
John Hodul (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) hit .583 (8-1-12) along with a team-best five block assists.
Flyer redshirt sophomore opposite hitter
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) notched 16 kills, while redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) collected 11 putaways.

Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) dished out 52 assists, while redshirt sophomore libero
Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) had a team-best seven digs.
With the win, Grand Canyon improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in MIVA action, while the Flyers fall to 6-2 on the campaign and 1-1 in conference play.
Lewis hit .364 (61-18-118), but the Flyers were outdug by the Lopes, 36-28, and also committed 19 service errors. Grand Canyon had a hitting percentage of .366 (64-19-123).
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Feb. 3), as the Flyers welcome Quincy to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 PM first serve.
