Springfield, Mo. - Lewis University head women's volleyball coach
Lorelee Smith won her 300th career match as the No. 6 Flyers claimed the 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Drury University at the O'Reilly Family Events Center on Friday (Oct. 27).
Smith now owns a record of 300-73 (.804) in 11 seasons as the Flyers' head coach.
"The team I get to coach is the absolute best," Smith said. "They are fun, driven, goal oriented and passionate about volleyball.Â
"It makes every win truly special, no matter the number," Smith continued. "I am proud to celebrate this with all (former) Lewis players and coaches."
With the win, Lewis improves to 21-2 overall and 10-1 in GLVC action, while the host Panthers fall to 17-9 on the campaign and 6-7 in conference play.
Keying the Flyers to victories was a trio of double-doubles from outside hitters
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central),
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and setter
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls).
Hyland had a match-high 16 kills and 13 digs, while Preuss collected 11 kills and a career-high 22 digs. Becker dished out 37 assists and 10 digs. Lewis also received a team-season high 29 digs from sophomore libero
Ronni Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago).
As a team, Lewis recorded a hitting percentage of .201 (48 kills, 16 errors, 159 attacks), while the Panthers hit .064 (34-24-156).
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 28), as the Flyers head to Rolla, Mo., for a 3 PM showdown with Missouri S&T.
