Evansville, Ind. - A 30-10 second half run wasn't enough for the Lewis University men's basketball team in an 84-75 overtime loss to Southern Indiana Thursday (Nov. 30) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at the Physical Events Center.
The Flyers (2-5, 0-1 GLVC) trailed 46-37 early in the third quarter when they went on a 12-0 spurt in three minutes to take a 49-46 lead.
That lead grew to 67-56 with 3:32 left in the game on a
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) basket. A 10-1 run over the next 2:03 got the Screaming Eagles (6-2, 1-0) back to within two at 68-66 with 1:29 left.
The hosts tied the game with six seconds left and Lewis missed a three-pointer to win the game at the end of regulation.
Lewis took a brief 72-71 lead in overtime before nine straight points from USI put the game away.
Wilson finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Lewis, while
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) (14) and
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) (12) also scored in double figures.
Blaylock and
Josh Niego (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had three steals each as the Flyers totaled 10 steals for the game. Lewis was outrebounded 44-32 for the contest.
The Flyers will look to bounce back Saturday (Dec. 2) when they continue their road trip at Bellarmine at 3 PM ET.
