Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team split its third consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader as the Flyers defeated Illinois Springfield, 6-3, in the opener, while dropping a 13-3 (5 inn.) decision to the Prairie Stars in the nightcap at the Lewis Softball Field on Sunday (Apr. 9).
With the split, Lewis is now 22-17 overall and 10-8 in GLVC action, while the Prairie Stars move to 21-21 on the campaign and 7-11 in conference play.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 14), as the Flyers head to Louisville for a 12 PM ET doubleheader against Bellarmine.

Lewis sophomore pitcher
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and tossed a complete-game, six-hitter while fanning six, as the Flyers claimed the 6-3 win in the opener.
Lewis sophomore first baseman
Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) provided Sanders and the Flyers some insurance in the fifth inning with a three-run homer, extending their lead to 6-2.
Flyer sophomore designated player
Alise Perna (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) went 2-for-3 at the dish, while junior catcher
Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) was 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI.

UIS scored in four out of five innings and connected for three home runs en route to the 13-3 (5 inn.) win over the Flyers in the nightcap.
Lewis starting pitcher
Taylor Boelte (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) took the loss for the Flyers in the circle. Boelte surrendered five runs - four earned - and five hits in two innings of work. She issued four walks and struck out one batter.
Perna and junior left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) each collected two hits and scored a run for the Flyers.
