Provo, Ut. - The No. 6 Lewis University men's volleyball team fell to No. 7 UC Irvine 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-21) Friday (Jan. 5) in its season opener at Smith Fieldhouse on the campus of Brigham Young University.
The Flyers (0-1) were paced by 
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin), who finished with 15 kills, five digs and 16 points, leading the team in all three categories. He had a.423 hitting percentage (15 kills,4 errors, 26 attacks) in the match.
Kyle Bugee (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) added seven kills for Lewis, while 
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and 
TJ Murray (Barrington, IL/Barrington) had three block assists each. 
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) tallied 16 assists and 
Ryan Van Loo (Burbank, CA/John Burroughs) added 12 assists.
Lewis hit .218 (35-16-87) for the match, while UC Irvine (1-0) hit .412 (42-9-80). The Flyers had six total blocks and 26 digs for the match.
The Flyers return to Smith Fieldhouse Saturday (Jan. 6) for a meeting with No. 3 BYU at 7 PM MT (8 CT).
