ROLLA, Mo. – The Lewis Flyer softball team had its three-game winning streak snapped as it dropped both ends of the doubleheader at Missouri S&T 5-0 and 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led the Flyers (14-10, 3-3 GLVC) with four hits in the doubleheader.
Game 1 – Missouri S&T 5, Lewis 0
Lewis was held to five hits in the opener and left six runners on base. The Lady Miners (14-12, 4-2 GLVC) got a two-run home run from Gretchen Egly in the first to open the scoring. S&T added to its lead in the fourth scoring three times highlighted by an RBI double from Courtney Jackson and an RBI single from Abby Klein.
DeMasi had two hits to lead the Flyers while
Emily Guske (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem),
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and Rylie Poretto had a hit each.
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) fell to 10-4 on the season allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits in six innings pitched.
Game 2 – Missouri S&T 4, Lewis 3
Lewis struck first in the second game scoring twice in the third inning on
Cassie Shaw (Moline, Ill./Moline)'s two-run single with the bases loaded. The Flyers added to their lead in the fourth inning when
Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) scored on an RBI single from DeMasi.
The Lady Miners cut the lead to 3-1 in the home half of the fourth. Klein singled with one out, stole second and scored on Egly's single to center. S&T took the lead scoring three times in the sixth highlighted by Olivia Young's two-run homer to left center.
Lewis outhit the Lady Miners 9-6 in the nightcap with DeMasi, Guske and
Morgan Weber (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) recording two hits each. Shaw fell to 4-3 allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
The Flyers open their home schedule this Saturday hosting McKendree in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at the Lewis Softball Field.
