Lewis Women’s Tennis Competes At ITA Midwest Regional

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lewis women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional in Allendale, Mich., this past weekend. The Flyers had four competitors compete in the singles competition and two teams in the doubles competition.

Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) playing in the "A" singles draw won her opening match defeating Davenport's Bruna Ralheta 6-0 and 6-4 in the round of 64. Pilzova then lost her second match to Michigan Tech's Iovna Gorgioski 6-1 and 7-5 in the second round.  

Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) also playing in the "A" singles draw lost her opening match to Indianapolis's Anna Valiaeva 6-2, 6-1 and then lost to Maryville's Clara Bascunana in three sets by scores of 5-7, 6-4, 8-10 in the consolation bracket.

Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) playing in the "B" singles draw received a bye in the round of 64 matches then defeated Michigan Tech's Allenca Rolim 6-4, 6-1 before losing to Davenport's Hannah Murphy in the round of 16 6-1, 6-3.

Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) won her opening match in the "B" singles draw defeating Cedarville's Halie Hardwick 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 64. Davis lost her second round match to Hillsdale's Casey Kibler 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles action, Pilzova and Sredojevic lost to Missouri-St. Louis's Salome Bleuler and Marina Prediger 8-4 in the first round of the "A" doubles bracket. The duo bounced back in the consolation bracket defeating Southern Indiana's Lauren Hambrock and Lauryn Thompson by the score of 8-3 but was eliminated in the consolation quarters by Hillsdale's Katie Bell and Corinne Prost 9-7.

Reisch and Davis, competing in the "B" doubles bracket won their opening match against Maryville's team of Bascunana and Ashley Dowden 8-4. They were then defeated in their second match of the day against Grand Valley's Livia Christman and Liv Hanover 8-5.

The Flyers return to action on October 5th in the Northwestern Wildcat Invite in Evanston, Ill.
