Story Links

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Lewis' men's basketball team held a seven-point lead eight minutes into the game but were unable to overcome a 27-4 run by Drury over the final 12 minutes of the first half in its 93-54 loss in Springfield on Saturday afternoon. Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) led the way with 16 points while Kendale McCullum (Elgin, Ill./Elgin Larkin) finished with 15 points.

The Flyers (10-3, 3-2 GLVC) opened the game knocking down seven of its first nine shots to build a 20-13 lead on an old fashioned three-point play from McCullum with 11:57 to play in the opening half.

The Panthers (8-8, 2-3 GLVC) then got hot from the perimeter knocking down four straight three's including two from Andrew Ballock to take a 26-20 lead with 6:04 left in the half.

Pischke finally snapped the run knocking down a three-pointer but Drury rattled off five straight and then after a free throw from Piscke scored the final seven points of the stanza.

After its hot start to begin the game Lewis was held to 1-of-14 shooting over the final 12 minutes of the half while the Panthers shot 53 percent (16-for-30) from the floor and was 6-of-10 from downtown.

Drury continued its hot shooting in the second half opening the half on a 14-8 run to extend its lead to 22 points on a three-point play from Ballock. The Flyers wouldn't get closer than 18 points the rest of the contest as they were held to a season low 54 points in the contest.

Lewis shot 43 percent from the floor in the second half but were unable to slow down Drury's offense as it shot 72 percent (21-for-29) from the field and was once again 6-of-10 from three.

The Panthers had six players reach double figures in scoring led by Allen Billinger with 14.

The Flyers are back at home on Wednesday (Jan. 16) hosting Indiana University Northwest at 7:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 4 but had to be rescheduled due to the mumps outbreak.
