BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Lewis' men's and women's swimming teams defeated Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at IWU's Fort Natatorium. The women defeated the Titans 169.5- 110.5, while the men won 213-43.
On the women's side,
Stephanie Palczynski (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South High School) picked up first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.33 and the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.57.
Ebony McCray (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria High School) won the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 54.28 and the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 27.31seconds.
Erin Bachmeier () won the 50 yard breaststroke in a time of 31.83 seconds and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.51. The Flyers won 11 of the 16 events.
Also picking up event wins for Lewis were
Mariia Melnichuk () in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25:47,
Shelby Gertson (Phoenix, AZ/Seton Catholic Preparatory) in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:29.00 and
Maria Rodriguez (Seville, Spain/San Francisco de Paula) in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:09.32.
The Flyers 200 yard medley relay team of Palczynski, Bachmeier, McCray and Melnichuk won with a time of 1:52.12 while the 200 freestyle squad of Melnichuk,
Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama/), Palczynski and
Benita Varanauskaite () won the event in a time of 1:44.37.
On the men's side, Lewis won all 14 events led by Filip Bjorkholm who won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.11, the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:50.83 and the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 53.49 seconds.
Ruben Van Leeuwen () also won three events. He won the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 23.48 seconds, the 100 free in a time of 47.12 seconds and the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 24.82 seconds.
Brock Star (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) won the 50 free with a time of 23.49 and the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:48.09.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:06.30,
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.42 seconds,
Guillaume Bolivard (Martinique, France/Lycee Centre Sud) won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 56.08 seconds,
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) took first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.63.
The Flyer 200 yard medley relay team of Bolivard, Taylor, Van Leeuwen and Star won the event in a time of 1:35.57 and the 200 yard free relay team of Wlodarz,
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), Mugg and
Jeremy Burbrink (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) won the event with a time of 1:33.19.
Lewis returns to the pool on Saturday (Oct. 26) traveling to Allendale, Mich., to take on Grand Valley State at 12 p.m. (CDT).
