ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' men's tennis team was in action this weekend competing at Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich.
The duo of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) won their first two doubles matches in the Flight before falling in the quarterfinals to the eventual runners-up. They defeated Indianapolis' Max Witthaus and Cristian Morales 8-4 in their opening match and then beat Northwood's Francois Sauerman and Kobus Sauerman 8-3 in the second round. The duo went up against Drury's Nico Hadeler and Gregor Kokalj in the quarterfinals where they fell 9-7.
The doubles tandem of Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia) lost to Findlay's Tomas Kmetko and Jorge Barnuevo 8-5 in the opening round of the Doubles A Flight.
In singles competition, Ambrozic defeated Davenport's J.L. van Antwerpen in straight sets in the opening round of the A Flight. He was defeated by Southwest Baptist's Adham Baber in the second round in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 4-10).
Lusti fell to SBU's David Szeri 7-5, 6-4 in his opening round match of the A Flight. Lusti bounced back in the consolation bracket defeating Illinois Springfield's Tomas Martinez 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.
Trifunovic lost to Drury's Augustin Diot in the first round of the A Flight 6-3, 6-3. He defeated Northwood's Ben Brandherm in the consolation bracket 6-2, 6-1.
Ramirez Mejia was defeated by Barnuevo in three sets by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-10. He won by default over Purdue Northwest's Leon Kah in the consolation bracket.
