ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' men's soccer team picked up its second straight win defeating Quincy 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. Alexis Robles-Ibarra (Harvard, Ill./Harvard) scored twice in the span of 96 seconds late in the second half for his first two goals of the season.

With the win, the Flyers improve to 7-1-2, 4-1-2 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 5-4, 3-3 GLVC.

John Oshakpemhe (Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria/Al-Mukhtar Secondary School) nearly put Lewis in front in the 24th minute but his attempt off the corner kick was saved off the line. Konrad Malinowski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Wheeling) had an attempt late in the half that was saved by Adam Whybrow.

The Flyers outshot Quincy in the opening half 5-3 but each side had two shots on goal. The Hawks had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Quincy appeared to take the lead in the 75th minute but the goal was waved off due to a foul in the box.

Lewis broke the scoreless deadlock in the 79th minute when Robles-Ibarra headed home a cross from Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) at the back post for his first goal of the season. Robles-Ibarra tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st minute knocking in a corner kick from Timm Adler (Frankenthal Rheinland-Pfalz Germany/Karolinen-Gymnasium Frankenthal).

The Flyer defense preserved the shutout saving a chance off the line in the 88th minute.

C.J. Couper (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) made five saves to pick up his seventh shutout of the season.

Lewis finished the contest with a 13-9 advantage in shots and 7-6 in shots on goal. The Hawks had an 11-6 edge in corner kicks.

The Flyers continue their four game homestand this Friday (Oct. 11) against Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m.
