Flyers Fall At No. 7 Ashland

ASHLAND, OHIO – Lewis' women's basketball team suffered its second straight setback with a 96-57 loss at seventh ranked Ashland on Thursday evening at Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio. The Flyers drop to 2-3 on the year while the Eagles improve to 4-0.

Lewis gave up the first points of the contest before getting back-to-back baskets from Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) to take a 4-2 lead 2:16 into the game. Ashland regained the lead with a 10-1 run with half of those belonging to Sarah Hart.

The Flyers hung around the five-point mark for the rest of the quarter until Sophia Fortner hit a layup near the end of the frame to put the Eagles ahead 24-16 at the quarter break.

Lewis shot 60 percent from the floor in the first 10 minutes but turned the ball over six times which lead to seven points for Ashland.

The Eagles extended their lead to 13 early in the second quarter but the Flyers responded with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 31-25 on a fast break layup from Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) with 7:03 to play in the quarter. Lewis wouldn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the quarter as the Eagles outscored them 23-12 over the final seven minutes to take a 54-37 lead into the half.

The Flyers struggled to score in the third quarter hitting just 3-of-18 shots and was 1-for-9 from three while Ashland shot 53 percent (10-for-19) from the field and hit three three-pointers.

Lewis shot 46 percent (5-for-11) from the field in the final quarter while holding the Eagles to just 29 percent shooting (6-of-21). The Flyers had balanced scoring in the final quarter with six different players recording a basket led by Reilly Olmstead (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) with three points.

Lewis finished the game shooting 38 percent (23-for-61) from the field but was just 1-of-13 from downtown and shot 67 percent at the foul line. Hinders was the lone Flyer in double figures with 11 points. Glatczak, Williams and Olmstead finished with eight points each.

Lewis travels to Wilberforce, Ohio on Saturday to take on Central State at 4:30 p.m. (CST).
