CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Lewis University men's tennis team fell to Wayne State 4-3 on Friday (Feb. 22) in a nonconference match. The loss drops the Flyers to 2-3 on the season, while the Warriors, ranked fourth in the Midwest Region, improve to 4-1.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) defeated Griffin Mertz and Taylor Vane 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) and
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) fell to Niklas Karcz and Pierre Renaudie 7-6 (7-4 tiebreak). The No. 3 doubles team of Pedja Trifunovic and
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) lost to Max Rink and Derek Sammons 7-5.
For singles, Braschinsky defeated Karcz in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Lusti rallied from a set down to defeat Vane 4-6, 7-6 (11-9) and 12-10 at No. 2 and
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) defeated Sammons 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6. Ambrozic lost to Mertz 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, Trifunovic fell to Jason Potter 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) dropped a straight set decision to Rink 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 5.
The Flyers return to the courts on Saturday (Feb. 23) when they take on Walsh at 5 p.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
