No. 10 Flyers Travel To No. 7 Loyola For First Place MIVA Showdown

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The red-hot Lewis Flyers continue their five match road trip on Friday as it heads up to Chicago to take on the No. 7 Loyola Ramblers at 7 p.m. Winners of its last six matches, Lewis enters the slate as the No. 10 ranked team in the country and tied with Loyola for the best MIVA record at 6-0.

Last Time Out: The Flyers picked up a pair of come from behind road wins to remain unbeaten in MIVA play last weekend. Lewis rallied for a five-set win at Ohio State last Thursday and then defeated McKendree in four sets on Saturday. Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) tallied a total of 34 kills (3.44 per set), 17 of which came at McKendree. Entering Wednesday, Coenen is fourth in kills with 174 and seventh in the conference in kills per set this season (3.05). Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) recorded a pair of double-doubles last weekend averaging 10.67 assists and 2.56 digs per set and also had seven total blocks and three service aces.

A Look at the Ramblers: Loyola, picked to finish second in the MIVA, extended its winning streak to five with a pair of road wins last weekend. The Ramblers defeated McKendree in come from behind fashion 3-1 and then swept Ohio State 3-0 in Columbus on Sunday (Feb. 24). Collin Mahan leads the MIVA in kills with 208 and is third in kills per set with 3.59. Garret Zolg leads the conference in assists per set with 11.47 while Avery Ayslworth is second in the conference in digs per set with 2.21. Paul Narup leads the MIVA in blocks per set with 1.28 and is third in hitting percentage at .470.

Series Stuff: Lewis trails the all-time series with Loyola 35-23 and are 9-17 all-time at Gentile Arena. Last season, the Ramblers took both matches winning 3-0 at Gentile on Feb. 28 and 3-0 at Neil Carey Arena on March 17.

Up Next: The Flyers head out to New Jersey for their Spring Break trip to conclude their five-match road trip. They'll take on Princeton on Saturday (March 9) at 6 p.m. (CT) and then conclude the trip with a match at New Jersey Institute of Technology on Monday (March 11) at 6 p.m. (CT).
