ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - It was a strong start for the Lewis University men's tennis team in Great Lakes Valley Conference play as the Flyers defeated McKendree 5-2 to open conference play at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex Monday (April 1).
Lewis is now 5-3 overall, 1-0 in the GLVC, while McKendree falls to 2-8, 0-1.
The Flyers earned the doubles point in the match after winning all three matches.
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) defeated Alywn Mushonga and Nick De Guzmon at No. 1 6-4,
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) and
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) took down Kyle Aubrey and Johnny Hu 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 and Pedja Trifunovic and
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) beat Ethan McCafferty and Kayser Khan 6-2 at No. 3.
Winning singles matches for Lewis were Lusti 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Hu at No. 2, Ambrozic 6-3, 6-2 over De Guzman at No. 3, Trifunovic 6-4, 6-2 over Aubrey at No. 4 and
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 over Khan at No. 5. Braschinsky fell 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3 to Mushonga at No. 1, while Peterson lost to Vishnu Prasad 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.
Lewis is back home Wednesday (April 3) for a nonconference match against St. Francis.
