ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 7 Lewis men's volleyball team swept Quincy to open play in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Tournament on Saturday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers improve to 23-5 while the Hawks end their season with a record of 5-23.
Lewis, seeded first in the tournament, hit .508 in the contest while holding Quincy, seeded eighth, to a .125 hitting percentage.
Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) finished with a match-high 12 kills and
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, IL/Minooka) added nine.
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) dished out 35 assists and
Michael Simmons (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) registered seven digs.
Lewis hit .500 in the opening set and led by as many as 10 points in the frame. Moses recorded five kills on six swings in the set and also had an ace.
The Flyers were even better in set two hitting .588 and closed the set out with an 8-4 run to win 25-18. Moses was 6-for-8 in the frame.
Lewis dominated the third set closing the match on a 10-2 run to win 25-11 and complete the sweep. Perinar recorded six kills on seven swings in the stanza.
Omari Wheeler led the Hawks with five kills while Zach Reider and Steve Bresser had four each. Adam Rogan had 18 assists while Wheeler finished with five digs.
The Flyers host fourth seeded McKendree in the MIVA Semifinals on Wednesday (April 17) at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The Bearcats avoided a reverse sweep defeating fifth seeded Ball State 16-14 in the fifth set to win 3-2 on Saturday.
