Lewis Baseball’s Rios Named GLVC Baseball Player Of The Week

He earns his first career POTW honor.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced on Monday (April 22) that Lewis University's Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) has been named the GLVC Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending April 21.

He went 12-for-21 (.571) at the plate with one home run, six doubles, nine runs batted in and 11 runs scored. Rios posted a slugging percentage of 1.000 on the week with 21 total bases, while posting four multi-hit efforts.

He finished the Rockhurst series with a 2-for-3 effort, including a double, RBI and three runs scored in Lewis 12-2 win over the Hawks.

Rios recorded a career highs in hits and RBI with a 4-for-4 effort, including two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored in the 24-4 win over Parkside last Wednesday.

He went 6-for-14 in the William Jewell series, posting one home run, three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored.

For the week he threw out four of five base stealers.

He earns his first Player of the Week award and is the first Flyer to win the award since Kurt Becker won it on March 28, 2016.

"Anthony was locked in all week at the plate so it was great to see him get rewarded for his outstanding play," Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough said. "Even more impressive was his defense. He's really playing well on both ends and we'll need that to continue down the stretch."

Lewis is back in action on Wednesday traveling up to Kenosha, Wis., to take on Parkside in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
