ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' men's swimming team recorded the fastest times in 12 events on Saturday afternoon as it won its first dual meet of the season by topping St. Ambrose 149-93 at the Lewis Swimming Pool in Romeoville, Ill.
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal) led the way for the Flyers winning three events. His first win came in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:44.60, van Leeuwen picked up his second win in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 52.23 and finished his day with a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.22.
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes) recorded victories in the 50-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 26.95 and in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.77.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) won both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles with times of 4:55.61 and 10:08.30 respectively.
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/) won the 50-yard backstroke with a winning time of 25.17 seconds and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.02.
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) had a winning performance in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.84 while
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a winning time of 21.99 seconds.
Lewis' 200-yard medley relay team of Sosa, Ramsey, van Leeuwen and Kissel claimed the top spot with a time of 1:35.32 winning the race by nearly five seconds.
Second place performances were also produced by
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:12.44 and the 50-yard breaststroke in 27.42 seconds. Kissel in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.03 and in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.91 seconds.
The Flyers got third place showings from
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.71,
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) in the 50-yard backstroke in 25.81 seconds and Wlodarz in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 27.63.
Lewis returns to the pool on Friday (October 23) as it hosts Lincoln College in a dual beginning at 5:30 p.m.
