Missouri-St. Louis Edges Lewis Women’s Swimming 113-98

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's swimming hit the road on Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon for a dual meet at Missouri-St. Louis. The Flyers fall to the Tritons 113-98. Lewis picked up five event wins in the dual led by Kiara Barnes (Cape Town, South Africa/) and Erin Bachmeier (/) with two event wins apiece.

Barnes gave the Flyers their first event win of the dual in the third event winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:14.80 which was a season best time by 12 seconds. Maria Rodriguez (Seville, Spain/San Francisco de Paula) finished third in the event with a time of 11:43.53.

Erin Bachmeier (/), Mariia Melnichuk () and Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama/) went first, second and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Bachmeier won the event with a time of 25.45 seoncds, Melnichuk touched the wall at 25.56 seconds and Navarrete finished at 26.72 seconds.

Larissa Alves (Panama/) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.62 seconds while Vladislava Saliieva (Odessa, Ukraine/) was third in the race with a time of 57.42 seconds.

Barnes concluded her day winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.83 improving her time by four seconds.

Bachmeier, Melanie Patterson (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) and Orla Clasby (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) went first, second and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Bachmeier won it with a time of 1:10.65, Patterson touched the wall at 1:11.34 and Clasby finished in a time of 1:14.65.

Lewis' 200-yard medley relay squad of Melnichuk, Bachmeier, Ianthe Van Der Westhuizen (Randfontein, South Africa) and Saliieva finished second in a time of 1:53.47.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alves, Rachel Marsh (Houston, Texas/Mirabeau B. Lamar), Cetta Senese (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and Navarrete took second in a time of 1:44.57.

Saliieva took second in the 200-yard freestyle touching the wall at 1:59.88.

Alves took second in the 200-yard individual medley turning in a season best time of 2:14.61 in the event.

Melnichuk turned in a second-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.21.

Both the Lewis men and women are in action on Saturday (Oct. 31) hosting GLVC foe Maryville in a dual meet beginning at 1 p.m.
