SMYRNA, Tenn. - The Lewis University women's bowling team picked up its second win over No. 3 Nebraska on the season as it went 5-7 on the weekend at the Music City Classic at Smyrna Bowling Center. Lewis (53-36) faced seven ranked opponents on the weekend and finished in 22nd place overall with a 173 average.
The Flyers opened the tournament Friday with a 914-881 win over the Cornhuskers in five-game Baker play. They followed that with an 873-783 loss to No. 21 Alabama-Birmingham and an 1,025-825 loss to No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, the defending NCAA champions, before finishing up with a 936-722 win over Aurora.
On Saturday Lewis went 1-4 in traditional games, falling to No. 5 Arkansas State 1,075-863, No. 20 Tulane 836-826, No. 19 Maryville 948-801 and No. 11 Louisiana Tech 1,054-851, while beating Elmhurst 816-812.
Erin Biccochi (Ladd, Ill./Hall) led the way with a 900,
Kaylee Zukovich (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) shot an 861,
Michelle Tiltges (Lansing, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) had a 635 in four games,
Kylie Johnson (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) rolled a 617 in four games,
Kayla Dench (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) shot a 472 in three games,
Amber-Grace Carroll (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) had a 384 in two games,
Jenna Sussenbach (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) rolled a 158 game and
Clara Ferrari (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) added a 130 game.
Lewis opened best-of-seven match play Sunday with a 4-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan (173-179, 157-178, 245-191, 220-163, 156-148, 222-145). The Flyers then beat Valparaiso 4-3 (167-170, 148-145, 189-169, 162-185, 213-193, 175-188, 204-176. They finished the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Drury (151-152, 180-193, 182-189, 190-147, 156-146, 189-143, 178-196), rallying back from a 3-0 deficit and falling in the 10th frame of game seven.
The Flyers will be competing Saturday and Sunday in Addison at the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectionals at Stardust Bowl.
