ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's swimming team wrapped up its dual schedule with an 148-114 victory over Division I Eastern Illinois on Senior Night on Friday evening at the Lewis Pool in Romeoville, Ill. The Flyers won 10 of the 14 events in the dual.
Freshman
Kiara Barnes (Cape Town, South Africa/) won the first event of the evening for Lewis as she won the 1,000 free in a personal best time of 10:49.13. Barnes added her second event later in the evening as she took the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.09.
Senior
Stephanie Palczynski (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South High School) also won two individual events and was a member of the winning 200 free relay. Palczynski won the 50 back in a time of 28.18 seconds and the 200 back turning in a performance of 2:07.83.
Sophomore
Erin Bachmeier (/) won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 31.19 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:31.11.
Senior Daniela Navarette and sophomore
Megan O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) finished first and second respectively in the 200 fly. Navarette touched the wall first at 2:19.09 while O'Brien turned in a time of 2:21.70.
Senior
Ianthe Van Der Westhuizen (Randfontein, South Africa) won the 50 fly while Navarette took third and
Rachel Marsh (Houston, Texas/Mirabeau B. Lamar) finished fourth in the event.
Freshman
Larissa Alves (Panama/), Van Der Westhuizen and freshman
Julia Lesnicki (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) took the top three spots in the 200 individual medley. Alves turned in a time of 2:14.21, Van Der Westhuizen finished at 2:20.84 and Lesnicki was third in a time of 2:21.75.
Lewis' 200 free relay team of Navarette, Bachmeier, Palczynski and Alves won the event in a time of 1:40.13.
The Flyers return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 10) as they compete in the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships in Elkhart, Ind.
