ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's swimming team picked up a decisive 186-75 win over Division I Eastern Illinois on Friday evening at the Lewis Pool. The Flyers won 11 of the 14 events in the dual on Senior Night.
Lewis' 200 Medley Relay team of junior
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/), junior
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes), senior
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal) and junior
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) won the event in a time of 1:35.99 while the team of junior
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), freshman Matt Senese, sophomore
Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain/Norba Caesarina) and sophomore
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) finished third with a time of 1:37.91.
Junior
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy), junior
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) and junior
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) finished first, second and third respectively in 1,000 free. Taylor won the event in a time of 9:47.89, Mugg turned in a performance of 9:48.00 and Roach finished at 10:36.97.
van Leeuwen won the 200 free in a time of 1:42.01 while senior
Brock Star (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) was third at 1:46.75.
Taylor, Ramsey and Senese took the top three spots in the 50 breaststroke with Taylor turning in a performance of 26.79 seconds while Ramsey came in at 27.05 and Senese finished at 27.70.
Junior
Filip Bjorkholm (Västerås, Sweden/Widenska) and Javato went first and second in the 200 fly with Bjorkolm winning the event in a time of 1:54.03 and Javato finished at 1:56.55.
van Leeuwen also added his second event win of the evening taking the top honor in the 50 free with a time of 21.37 seconds. Wlodarz was second at 22.36 edging out sophomore
Ethan Fox (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) who finished at 22.37 and Star was fourth at 22.63.
Sosa won the 200 back turning in a performance of 1:51.81.
Taylor added to his total winning the 200 breast in a time of 2:06.44 and Senese was third finishing at 2:16.21.
Bjorkholm, Mugg and freshman
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) went 1-2-3 in the in 500 free with Bjorkholm winning at 4:41.60, Mugg was second at 4:49.11 and Rolfsen turned in a time of 4:57.33.
van Leeuwen also won three events in the dual as he won the 50 fly in a time of 22.86 seconds while Javato finished third at 24.24 seconds.
Kissel and Sosa finished first and third respectively in the 200 individual medley with times of 1:52.57 and 1:57.81.
The Flyers 200 free relay team of Star, Bjorkholm, freshman
Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and Fox took second in a time of 1:30.19 while the team of Rolfsen, Mugg, sophomore
Jacob Przylucki (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and Taylor were third at 1:32.40.
Lewis returns to action on Wednesday (Feb. 10) as they compete in the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships in Elkhart, Ind.
