INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University's men's swimming is currently fifth out of seven teams with 542.5 points heading in the to final day of IUPUI's House of Champions meet at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The University of Indianapolis leads the field with 986.5 points while the host Jaguars are second with 830.5 points.
The Flyers got a fifth place performance in the B Final of the 100 fly from
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) with a time of 50.44 seconds.
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/) turned in a second place performance in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:57.80 which was good for a B standard qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in March.
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) was eighth in the B Final with a time of 4:12.98.
Lewis finished first and sixth in the 200 free as
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal) won the event in a time of 1:36.25 while
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) was sixth at 1:42.14. van Leeuwen's time broke his own school record in the event by .20 seconds and achieved an NCAA B standard qualifying mark for the national meet.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) and
Filip Bjorkholm (Västerås, Sweden/Widenska) were sixth and seventh in the B final with times of 1:43.44 and 1:43.45 respectively while
Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) were fifth and eighth in the C final with times of 1:44.51 and 1:48.29 respectively.
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) was seventh in the 100 breaststroke A final with atime of 55.52 which was good enough to secure a B standard qualifying mark for the national meet.
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes),
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Matthew Senese (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) finished second, sixth and seventh in the B final with times of 56.89, 57.79 and 57.91 respectively.
Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) took fifth in the C final of the event in a time of 59.70.
Miguel Turcios (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Canterbury School) finished in a tie for fourth in the B final of the 100 back with Luke Wiesner from Illinois Chicago with a time of 51.42 seconds while Thoss took fourth in the C final in a time of 52.89.
The Flyer foursome of Taylor, Kissel, Bjorkholm and van Leeuwen finished second in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:46.73 while the quartet of Wlodarz, Mugg, Smith and Roach finished at 7:02.21.
Lewis wraps up competition at the House of Champions meet on Saturday with the morning prelims beginning at 9 a.m. (CST) with the finals scheduled to start that evening at 5 p.m. (CST).
