Lebanon, Ill. – Lewis University's men's soccer team fell to McKendree, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Leeman Field in Lebanon, Ill. The Flyers drop to 0-2 while the Bearcats improve to 1-2, both teams are in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Flyers had several opportunities in the first half, attacking the goal early with
Abdul Ganiyu-Iddrisu (Accra, Ghana/Eastern Florida State College) striking first. They led McKendree 5-3 in shots attempted and
Will Maurice (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) deflected the first attempt by the Bearcats.
McKendree got on the board first as James Stone set up his teammate, Eddie Davis for the goal at the in the 34th minute.
Early in the second half,
Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) attempted to score the equalizer but he was blocked by the defensive line of McKendree.
At the 75th minute, Mwanga tried to get the ball in the net once again but the shot was deflected by Alvaro Cortazar. Ten minutes later, Raul Artega sealed the Bearcats victory with another score.
Both teams attempted ten shots, Lewis had four on target and McKendree had three on target. The Flyers also had the advantage in corners, 6-4
The Flyers play their first home match on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Southern Indiana.
