PLAINFIELD, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team was edged by Walsh 4-3 on Saturday evening at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The loss drops the Flyers to 1-1 on the season while the Cavaliers improve to 4-3.
Lewis won the first two doubles matches to take the first point of the contest.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) defeated Clemens Wagner and Filipp Kulynych 6-5 at No. 2 doubles to open the contest.
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) followed with 6-2 win over Jakob Riglewski and A. Medina Puigmarti 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) fell to Joao Campos and Dawson Drummond 6-4 in No. 3 doubles action.
The Flyers took the first two points in the singles competition with Lusti defeating Wagner in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ambrozic beat Campos 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. The Cavaliers would win the next four matches to get the win. Ramirez Mejia lost to Riglewski 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Trifunovic fell in No. 4 singles action to Kulynych in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 1-6, Sowa lost in straight sets to Medina Puigmarti 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and
Jeremy Charles (Grenada/Cedar International School) was defeated by Drummond 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles action.
Lewis returns to the courts on Thursday (March 4) taking on Purdue Northwest at 9 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center.
