Fourth Ranked Flyers Extend Win Streak To Six With Sweep Of Quincy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to a season-high six matches with a sweep of Quincy on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers improve to 14-2, 9-2 MIVA while the Hawks fall to 4-10, 1-10 MIVA.

Lewis used a 9-1 run in the opening set to extend its 9-7 lead to 18-8 as Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin), Kyle Bugee (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) and Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) each had two kills in the run while Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added one as well. Quincy closed to within 21-12 after back-to-back kills from Michael Ladner but the Flyers wouldn't allow them to get any closer as they scored four of the final six points to win the opener 25-14.

The middle frame saw five ties and three lead changes, but it was Lewis pulling away late in the set as it went on an 8-2 run to win 25-17. Coenen and Bugee combined for five of the kills in that set deciding run.

The Flyers dominated the third set as they opened on an 8-1 run and never looked back. The Hawks closed to within five at 14-9 but wouldn't get any closer as Lewis outscored them 11-3 the rest of the stanza to win 25-12.

The Flyers fit .442 for the contest recording 43 kills against nine errors in 77 chances. Coenen had a match-high 18 kills while Bugee finished with 10 kills. Kauling handed out 36 assists while Carlos Jimenez (Miami Beach, Fla./FLVS) had a match-high nine digs.

Lewis' defense held Quincy to a .103 attack percentage with 21 kills against 13 errors in 78 swings. Ladner led the Hawks with nine kills while Yoran Raymaekers had 15 assists and Eddie Jakubauskas had five digs.
