ROLLA, Mo. – Lewis University's women's track and field team won the Miner Invitational while Lewis' men's track and field team took second on Saturday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Mo. The Flyer women scored 256.83 points while the men scored 200 points.
The Flyer women won 11 events and recorded five provisional qualifying marks.
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) and
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) won two events apiece while
Kassady Learn (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo),
Arianna Amill-Ramos (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook),
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North),
Tsitsi Mahachi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School),
Aliza Van Den Elzen (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) and
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) won an event each. Lewis' 4x400 meter relay team of Vivic Phillips,
Essence Winters (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East),
Faith Wyman (Trenton, Ill./Trenton (Wesclin)) and
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) won that event in a time of 3:57.15.
Hoffman won the 100 meters in a time of 11.87 meters and picked up a provisional mark in the event. She came back later in the day to win the 200 meters in a time of 24.48 seconds.
Bernett won both the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles. Her time of 14.09 seconds in the 100 hurdles was good for a provisional mark. She took the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.90.
Learn took the spot in the 5,000 meters as she crossed the line at 4:43.72. Amill-Ramos won the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 11:34.34.
Laudizio picked up a qualifying mark to win the long jump with a leap of 5.83 meters (19'1.5"). Mahachi won the triple jump with a jump of 11.94 meters (39'2.25") to earn a provisional mark.
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) took second in both the triple and long jumps.
Van Den Elzen won the javelin throw with a heave of 39.41 meters (129'3") while Bernett was second in the event with a throw of 39.03 meters (128'1").
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) picked up a provisional mark taking second in the pole vault clearing the bar at 3.70 meters (12'1.5").
Wymer picked up the final provisional mark winning the shot put with a heave of 13.89 meters (45'7").
On the men's side the Flyers finished with eight event wins with
Demontez McCray (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon),
John Partee (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South),
Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central),
Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central),
Dustin Macuiba (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township),
Michael Lyons (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central HS) and
Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) all picked up victories.
McCray won the 200 meters in a time of 21.77 seconds and was the runner up in the 100 meters finishing at 10.73 seconds.
Partee won the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.18. Farmer was the winner in the 1,500 finishing at 3:54.34. Wagner won the 110 meter hurdles at 14.74 seconds while Gerwin De Hann was second at 16.08 seconds. Wagner also took second in the 400 hurdles in a time of 54.63 seconds.
Macuiba won the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 9:20.99 while
Daniel Arimi (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland),
Bryce Medaris (Littleton, Colo./Mullen),
Trey Houmes (Hoopeston, Ill./Hoopeston Area) and
Jacob Hinchley (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
Lyons won the high jump clearing the bar at 2.01 meters (6'7").
Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) won the triple jump with a leap of 14.55 meters (47'9").
Lewis' 4x400 meter relay team consisting of
Jacoby Jones (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville), Wagner, McCray and Partee took the top spot in a time of 3:17.20.
The Flyer men's and women's track and field teams are back in action next Friday (April 2) as they take part in the McKendree Bearcat Classic.
