LEBANON, Ill. – Lewis' men's and women's track and field team combined to record 23 top 10 finishes at the McKendree Bearcat Classic on Friday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. The Flyer women had 15 top 10 finishes and won three events while the Flyer men had eight top 10 finishes and won one event.
On the women's side,
Allison Heinzer (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland HS) won both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 24.72 and 55.35 seconds respectively. Her time in the 400 meters is the third fastest in Division II this season and was good for a provisional qualifying mark for nationals.
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) and
Faith Wyman (Trenton, Ill./Trenton (Wesclin)) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 meters with times of 26.58 and 26.83 seconds. Chalmers,
Vivica Phillips (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South HS) and Wyman were fourth, fifth and sixth in the 400 meters with times of 59.84 seconds, 1:00:04 and 1:01.52 respectively.
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) won the 100 hurdles while
Allison Mack (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park HS) was fourth in the event. Bernett had a time of 14.26 seconds and Mack finished at 15.33 seconds. Bernett also took third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.41.
Jozlyn Garcia (Sterling, Ill./Sterling HS) and
Nadia Roberts (Burbank, Ill./Burbank (Reavis)) finished second and seventh respectively in the high jump. Garcia cleared the bar at 1.55 meters (5'1") while Roberts cleared at 1.45 meters (4'9").
Jena Martin (Smithville, Mo./Smithville) finished second and fifth respectively in the long and triple jumps. She jumped 5.17 meters (16'11.5") in the long jump and 10.62 meters (34'10.25") in the triple jump.
Alexandra Martinez (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfeild Central) was seventh in the 100 dash with a time of 12.78 seconds.
On the men's side,
Zach Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) won the triple jump with a leap of 14.03 meters (46'0.5").
Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.92 seconds and fourth in the 400 hurdles at 54.44 seconds.
Andrew MyKulanych was third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.97 seconds.
Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) and
Demontez McCray (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 200 meters with times of 22.55 and 22.60 seconds.
Nick Krella (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) finished fifth in the pole vault clearing the bar at 4.20 meters (13'9.25") and Lewis' 4x100 meter relay team of
Reese Kocanda (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South),
Rackesh Ragoo (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville), McCray and Zack came in second with a time of 41.95 seconds.
The Flyers return to the track next Friday (April 9) as they're sending participants to both the Benedictine Eagle Invite in Lisle, Ill., and Bellarmine's Jim Vargo Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
