DES MOINES, Iowa – Lewis University's men's and women's track and field teams combined to record 17 top finishes on Saturday (April 24) at the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
On the women's side, the Flyers had 12 top 10 finishes and two event wins.
Allison Heinzer (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland HS) and
Grace Harris (Dousman, Wis./Homeschooled) finished first and second respectively in the 200 meters. Heinzer improved her qualifying mark for nationals with her time of 23.85 seconds while Harris finished at 24.56 seconds.
Lewis finished first, second and third in the triple jump as
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) won the event with a leap of 12.47 meters (40'11") and also improved her qualifying mark for the national meet.
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) took second in the event with a jump of 12.12 meters (39'9.75") while Tsitisi Mahachi finished third with a leap of 11.99 meters (39'4") to earn a provisional qualifying mark for nationals.
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) took sixth in the event with a jump of 11.51 meters (37'9.25").
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.69 and recorded a provisional qualifying mark for nationals.
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) and
Allison Mack (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park HS) finished third and sixth respectively in the 100-meter hurdles. Bernett finished in a time of 14.04 seconds which is good for a provisional qualifying mark for nationals. Mack came in at 14.73 seconds.
The Flyer 4x100 meter relay quartet of Hoffman, Heinzer, Harris and
Rose-Marie Ogbuli (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) finished third with a time of 46.14 seconds.
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) finished fourth in the shot pot with a heave of 13.91 meters (45'7.75").
Lewis' 4x400 meter relay team of Mahachi, Heinzer, Harris and
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) finished fifth at 3:51.57.
Arianna Amill-Ramos (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) recorded a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finishing with a time of 11:26.02.
On the men's side,
Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) and
Zach Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) took second and third respectively in the triple jump. Zack's best jump was 14.27 meters (46'10") while Olenek's best attempt was 14.09 meters (46'2.75").
Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.06.
Daniel Arimi (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:31.78.
The Flyer 4x400 meter relay team of Wagner,
Jacoby Jones (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville),
John Partee (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and
Demontez McCray (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) finished seventh overall with a time of 3:17.95.
Both Lewis track and field teams are back in action next Friday at the Benedictine Eagle Tune-Up in Lisle, Ill.
