AURORA, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team defeated McKendree 5-2 Friday (April 9) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Vaughan Tennis Center. The Flyers move to 6-3 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC with the win, while McKendree falls to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC.

Lewis earned the doubles point by taking two of three doubles matches. The tandem of
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) won 7-6 at No. 1 over Viola Cipriani and Camilla Fonseca, while
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) beat Rhyan Cook and Emily Kettering 6-1 at No. 3.

In singles, wins went to Pedroso at No. 1 6-1, 6-0 over Mariana Caicedo Mora, Vujanic at No. 3 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over Sara Kalkenova,
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) at No. 4 0-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) over Fonseca and Sueflohn 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 over Cook.

Lewis returns to the courts Saturday at 4:30 p.m. to face Illinois Springfield at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield.
