Flyers Cruise To Senior Day Victory Over Maryville

Men won 174-50, women defeated the Saints 176-58

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their dual meet schedule defeating Maryville on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Swimming Pool. The 25th ranked Flyer men defeated the Saints 174-50 while the women won 176-58.

On the women's side, Lewis won 11 of the 14 events and had three swimmers win two events. Kiara Barnes (Cape Town, South Africa/) was the winner in the 1,000 free and 200 back, Orla Clasby (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke and Larissa Alves (Panama/) was the winner in the 100 free and 400 individual medley.

Alves, Erin Bachmeier (Savage, Minn./Burnsville), Cetta Senese (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and Madi Heckman (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:53.04. The Flyer foursome of Maddy Wagner (Hickman, Neb./Norris), Melanie Patterson (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama/) and Rachel Marsh (Houston, Texas/Mirabeau B. Lamar) finished second at 1:56.79. Lewis' quartet of Julia Lesnicki (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), Clasby, Megan O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Meghan Bandy (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) finished fourth at 2:00.45.

Barnes picked up her first event win winning the 1,000 free by over 30 seconds with a time of 11:05.85 while Maria Rodriguez (Seville, Spain/San Francisco de Paula) was second at 11:37.53.

Lewis took the top three spots in the 200 free with Heckman taking the top spot at 2:07.06 while Benita Varanauskaite (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) was second at 2:07.21 and O'Brien was third in a time of 2:10.98.
Marsh, Lesnicki, Wagner and Marie Grzybek (Inverness, Ill./William Fremd) finished second through fifth in the 100 back. Marsh finished with a time of 1:05, Lesnicki came in at 1:05.54, Wagner was at 1:06.55 and Grzybek came in at 1:10.97.

The Flyers went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast with Clasby touching the wall first at 1:11.20 and was followed by Senese at 1:12.42 and Patterson was third at 1:12.98.

Alves won the 100 free in a time of 55.26 seconds while Marsh was second at 56.89 and Varanauskaite was third at 58.75. Bandy finished fifth at 59.42 seconds.
Barnes added her second win of the afternoon in the 200 back with a time of 2:16.23, Wagner finished third while Lesnicki was fourth and Bachmeier came in fifth.

Lewis swept the 200 breast with Clasby winning the event with a time of 2:35.41 while Heckman was second at 2:38.69 and Patterson finished third at 2:42.97.

Grzybek and Bandy finished first and second in the 500 free with Grzybek finishing at 5:41.84 and Bandy came in at 5:42.51.

Senese and O'Brien were second and third in the 100 fly at 1:01.76 and 1:07.47 respectively.

The Flyers swept the 400 individual medley with Alves winning in a time of 4:48.51 while Navarette was second at 4:59.81 and Rodriguez was third at 5:11.33.

Lewis had three of the top four times in the 200 free relay. The quartet of Bachmeier, Heckman, Navarette and Alves posted a time of 1:42.01, the foursome of Wagner, Marsh, Varanauskaite and Senese finished at 1:47.33 while the team of Lesnicki, Bandy, Barnes and Grzybek came in at 1:50.29.

In the men's dual, the Flyers won 11 of the 14 events with Filip Bjorkholm (Västerås, Sweden/Widenska), Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) and Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/) winning two events apiece while Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal), Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East), Miguel Turcios (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Canterbury School), Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) and Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) had a win each.

Lewis opened the event taking the top four spots in the 200 medley relay with the squad of van Leeuwen, Taylor, Thoss and Kissel posting the winning time of 1:34.00, The foursome of Turcios, Matt Senese, Lucas Mourao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Presbiteriano Mackenzie) and Ethan Fox (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) were second at 1:37.98, the team of Sosa, Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes), Joshua Moellenhoff and Brock Star (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) were third at 1:40.20 and the quartet of Kevin Soltys (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect), Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central), Jacob Przylucki (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) were fourth at 1:42.75.

Bjorkholm and Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) were first and second in the 1,000 free at 9:43.59 and 10:14.98 respectively.

The Flyers swept the 200 free with Mugg winning the event at 1:46.36 while Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) was second at 1:47.56, Star was third at 1:48.44, Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) was fourth at 1:51.38 and Przylucki came in fifth at 1:59.93.

Turcios won the 100 back with a time of 52.74 seconds and was followed by Fox at 53.33 seconds, Thoss was third at 54.61 seconds, Soltys was fourth in a time of 54.97 seconds and Roach was fifth at 1:00.34.

Taylor won the 100 breast in a time of 55.50 seconds while Senese was second at 59.49 seconds, Wlodarz was third at 1:01.63, Smith was fourth at 1:02.46 and Danko was fifth at 1:02.79.

Kissel and Lucas Mourao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Presbiteriano Mackenzie) were second and third in the 200 fly at 2:01.32 and 2:07.59 respectively.

van Leeuwen won the 50 free in a time of 21.39 seconds while Smith was second at 22.48 seconds, Wlodarz finished third at 22.60 seconds, Ramsey was fourth and Thoss finished fifth.

Kissel, Fox and Star went 1-2-3 in the 100 free with Kissel winning at 48.18 seconds while Fox came in at 48.47 and Star was third at 48.94 seconds.

Sosa and Mugg finished first and second in the 200 back with Sosa winning at 1:53.53 while Mugg was second at 2:02.64.

Taylor, Danko and Ramsey took the top three spots in the 200 breast with Taylor posting the winning time of 2:04.55.

Bjorkholm, Mugg and Soltys went 1-2-3 in the 500 free with Bjorkholm winning at 4:41.04.

Thoss won the 100 fly in a time of 52.66 seconds while Ramsey was third at 55.80 seconds and Senese was fourth at 55.82 seconds.

Sosa was the winner in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:08.04 and Lewis' foursome of Kissel, Star, Fox and van Leeuwen had the top time in the 200 free relay at 1:25.83.

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center in Elkhart, Ind.
