JONESBORO, Ark. - The No. 20 Lewis University women's bowling team competed in the Mid-Winter Invite over the weekend at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center, which featured 12 ranked programs among the 18 schools. The Flyers finished the tournament in 11th place with a 4-9 record, highlighted by a record first day.
On Friday, which featured five, five-game baker matches, the Flyers (42-33) shot a program-record 5,025, the first time they ever averaged over 200 for a day in any format. Unfortunately, they couldn't catch a break in the head-to-head format, going 1-4 on the day, falling to No. 13 Maryville 1,009-944, No. 9 Youngstown State 1,043-1,013, No. 22 Wisconsin-Whitewater 1,088-1,031, beating No. 15 Tulane 1,025-960 and falling to Tusculum 1,018-1,012. The Flyers sat in seventh place after the first day.
On Saturday in traditional play Lewis opened with wins over Tulane 995-964 and Kentucky Wesleyan 1,024-909 before falling to No. 1 McKendree 1,025-993, No. 7 Arkansas State 1,183-957 and Jackson State 876-842. Lewis shot a 4,811 on Saturday and its two-day total of 9,836 put it in 10th place heading into bracket play.
Sunday the Flyers fell 4-1 to Youngstown State (183-221, 182-235, 189-171, 167-231, 198-207) and Tulane 4-2 (201-223, 173-205, 196-171, 184-171, 214-215, 160-163) before defeating Drury 4-1 (174-210, 202-177, 211-167, 223-183, 209-154).
Leading the way for Lewis in indivudal play was
Kylie Johnson (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North), who finished 10th with a 1,093.
Kayla Dench (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) added a 925,
DeAlani Fishbeck (Lawton, Okla./Lawton) shot a 920,
Kelsey Olson (South Beloit, ILL./Hononegah) had a 748 in four games,
Jenna Sussenbach (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) had a 606 in three games,
Savanna Jourdan (Oswego, ILL./Oswego) shot a 357 in two games and
Erica Lohr (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) had a 164 game.
Lewis will return to the lanes March 12 for Intercollegiate Team Sectionals.
