Flyers Defeat Embry-Riddle For Second Straight Win

ST. LOUIS – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team picked up its second straight victory defeating Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 15-10 at the Maryville Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon in St. Louis. The Flyers improve to 5-2 on the season while the Eagles fall to 3-5.

Lewis struck first as Xan Brouillet (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored 1:22 into the contest with an assist from Evan Clement (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel). ERAU scored twice in the span of 0:32 to take a 2-1 advantage but the Flyers came back as Brouillet scored his second of the quarter to knot the game at two. The Eagles scored 1:08 to regain the lead as Gavin Madden scored with an assist from Pete Abbes. Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) scored late in the quarter with an assist from Clement to even the score at three heading into the second stanza.

Embry-Riddle scored 0:47 into the second frame to regain the lead but the Flyers answered two minutes later as Stone scored an unassisted goal. The Eagles scored the next two goals to build its largest lead of the half at 6-4 but back came Lewis scoring twice in the span of 90 seconds to tie the game at six. Brouillet picked up his third goal of the half and Stone added his second. Joe Anderson gave ERAU its final lead of the contest with an unassisted goal with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Flyers tied the game at seven shortly before the half as Clement scored with an assist from Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School).

Lewis dominated the third quarter scoring five straight goals to build a 12-7 lead. Clement scored twice in the quarter while Andre, Stone and Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, Minn./Totino Grace) added one each.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the final 15 minutes as Abbes scored an unassisted goal to cut the margin to 12-8. Andre and Dalep scored back-to-back go give Lewis its biggest lead of the contest at 14-8 with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Embry-Riddle cut the Flyer lead to four scoring twice in the span 0:19 but it wouldn't be enough as Dalep sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute.

Lewis outshot the Eagles 43-27 in the contest including 25-14 in shots on goal. The Flyers caused nine turnovers and scooped up 29 ground balls in the contest. Domenic Tarello (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) was 11-of-24 in the face-off circle. Clement led the way with six points scoring three goals and adding three assists. Brouillet, Andre and Stone added three goals each. Riah Rathe (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) made four saves in goal to pick up his fifth win of the season.

The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday as they take on Alabama-Huntsville at 2 p.m. at Maryville in St. Louis.
