ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University men's and women's cross country coach
James Kearney has announced his 2022 recruiting class with six new women's runners and seven men.
Madilyn Calloway (Rochester Community HS/Rochester Ind.) - Personal Bests of 11:33 for 3200, 5:28 for 1600 and 18:51 5K. "I am very excited for Madilyn," Kearney said. "I think the longer distances will really suit her at the college level. She was coached and developed very well at Rochester and has run some excellent state meets in her career. I am excited to see her develop further at Lewis."

Kate Guderjan (Lincoln-Way East HS/Frankfort, Ill.) PB's of 11:12 for 3200, 5:09 for 1600 and 18:08 for cross country. "Kate was one of the more accomplished runners in the SWSC conference over the past four years," Kearney said. "She was someone we targeted very early in this recruiting cycle and I cannot wait to see what her maturity and talents bring to Romeoville. Kate was a part of a state championship team at LWE and I know the experiences that brings will add immensely to our program."

Michelle Masis (Plainfield North HS/Plainfield, Ill.) PB's of 5:39 for 1600, 18:37 for cross country. "Michelle had an outstanding senior cross country season for coach (Tammy) Gummerson at PN," Kearney said. "After getting the opportunity to watch her race in person I was so excited about the ways she can grow in our program."

Rachael Morrison (Lindenwood University/Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) PB's of 4:52 for Mile and 21:59 6k XC. "Rachael was one of the top athletes in the GLVC last fall and spring," Kearney said. "Watching her race against us for the past three years now makes me happy that she will be racing for us now. She had a fantastic indoor season last winter making the NCAA DII meet in the mile, and I'm excited to see what her experiences bring to our program and culture here at Lewis."

Madelyn Tepe (McKendree University/Vendy, Ill.) PB's of 2:16 for 800 and 4:53 for 1500. "Madelyn was the GLVC runner up in the 800 back in 2021," Kearney said. "She has been a force in the conference since her freshman year. When she got admitted to our graduate school and approached about running for our program I was floored with her maturity and passion. I know she will be a huge asset to our team and culture."

Sydney Wolf (Seton Hill University/Elmwood City, Penn.) PB's of 2:13 for 800m 4:36 for 1500m and 21:39 for 6k XC. "Sydney will be joining us as a graduate student and she is coming off a fantastic career at Seton Hill," Kearney said. "She was the PSAC champion last fall in XC and has NCAA nationals experience in cross country. Sydney is not only talented, but is incredibly positive. She was awesome to connect with throughout the recruiting process and I'm excited to see her growth as a leader and runner here at Lewis."

Men's Class
Paul DeAvlia (Plainfield Central HS/Plainfield, Ill.) PBs of 4:30/9:53/15:24. "Paul had a great senior year for the Wildcats and was someone that coach Purdom spoke very highly of," Kearney said. "I'm excited to see how Paul grows and develops at Lewis."

Zack Dunn (Merrillville HS/ Merrillville, Ind.) PB's of 4:27/9:57/16:26. "Zack had some tough luck senior year in XC with COVID right before the post season," Kearney said. "Watching him manage the IHSAA tournament and actually still run his PR at the state championships was absolutely what spoke to me the most about him. I'm excited about his resilience and mental toughness and he grows in his time in Romeoville."

Alex Forster (Minooka HS/ Minooka, Ill.) PBs of 4:31/9:54/15:38. "Alex had a fantastic senior year at Minooka and has two of the best coaches in the state in coach Gummerson and Lundin," Kearney said. "Both couldn't say more positive things about him and is work ethic. Alex will be an excellent addition to our program."

Jack Hiller (Althoff Catholic HS/Belleville, Ill.) PBs of 4:32/15:35. "Jack was someone who stood out immediately upon meeting him," Kearney said. "His cultural fit will be exciting as an addition and I see Jack as someone with a huge upside within our program."

Evan Jamrozy (Loras College, Shepard HS/ Palos Heights, Ill.) PBs of 8:35/14:46/25:05. "Evan was someone who came on our radar late, but after connecting with him I'm very excited to work with him," Kearney said. "His impact will be immediate in our program and Evan will be huge asset to our roster."Â

Owen Thomas (Morgan Township HS/ Valparaiso, Ind.) PBs of 4:30/9:58/16:27. "Owen was part of some huge history at Morgan Township last fall," Kearney stated. "He lead his team to their first team qualifier to the IHSAA state championships in school history. His passion for the sport and unrelenting pursuit of excellence made him a perfect fit in Romeoville and I'm excited to get to work with him for the next four years."

Matthew Torres (Illinois Math and Science Academy/Aurora, Ill.) PBs of 9:53/16:03. "Matthew had a breakout year last year for IMSA," Kearney said. "He made the state meet in XC and Track in the 3200. He's still very young in the sport and I'm excited to see him mature and grow in our program."
