Men's Soccer Falls to Illinois-Springfield Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's soccer team suffered a setback against Illinois-Springfield, 3-1, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup, Friday (Sept. 30). Cristian Perez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) scored his second goal of the season in the 25th minute.

HALF BREAKDOWN

  • Illinois-Springfield did not waste any time as the Prairie Stars scored right away in the third minute to grab a 1-0 lead.
  • Perez responded for the Flyers in the 25th minute scoring a goal.
  • Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) tried to give Lewis the lead but his shot was saved.
  • UIS tried to take the lead in the 32nd minute but Doppelhofer was there for the save.
  • Shkidchenko went on the attack in the 35th minute but his shot was off target.
  • Perez tried to score his second goal of the match in the 38th minute but UIS' goalkeeper saved it.
  • In the 42nd minute, UIS doubled their lead after finding the back of the net from a corner kick.
Second Half: Illinois Springfield 1, Lewis 0
  • Stefan Ziermann (Vienna, Austria/University of Economics) tried to tie the match up at 2-all but his shot went high in the 51st minute.
  • Goronickis had two shots in a row in the 62nd and 64th minute but none of them were on target.
  • UIS grabbed an 3-1 advantage in the 76th minute as the Prairie Stars found the back of the net again and that score would hold.
