ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 15 Lewis University men's volleyball team earns its third straight victory after a 3-1 win over UC San Diego on Saturday, January 14. The Flyers scored eight straight points to close the fourth set and seal the win.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Lewis 27, UC San Diego 25
- Lewis took an early 9-4 advantage after a block by Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove HS) and Roquet ultimately forced UC San Diego to call its first timeout of the evening.
- The Tritons were able to come back and tie the set at 17 with a kill by Jim Garrison and two errors by the Flyers.
- Both teams went back and forth on the scoreboard until two costly errors by UC San Diego gave Lewis multiple opportunities to end the set.
- Roquet recorded a service to secure set number one.
SECOND SET: Lewis 25, UC San Diego 20
- Lewis took another early lead, this time 7-3, involving four kills by all separate Flyers.
- UC San Diego was able to go on a run of its own and take its first lead of the set at 12-11.
- Lewis managed to regain the lead with two kills from Roquet.
- With a 20-18 advantage, Lewis scored four straight and capped a second straight win with another kill by Roquet.
THIRD SET: UC San Diego 25, Lewis 23
- UC San Diego was the team to jump out to an early lead in the third set, that they were ultimately able to hold onto.
- The Tritons 5-3 early advantage developed into a 10-7 lead that forced Lewis to call a timeout.
- The Flyers were able to recover and tie the game at 15 with back-to-back service errors by UC San Diego.
- Both teams traded points and found themselves tied at 23 then Jim Garrison and Nick Rigo had a kill each to help the Tritons win their first set of the evening.
FOURTH SET: Lewis 25, UC San Diego 23
- In the fourth set, UC San Diego looked to have everyone convinced that a fifth set was evident. The Tritons had a 7-3 early lead later turned into a 14-7 lead.
- The Flyers called their first timeout of the set down 18-12 and tried to get back in the match with a quick 5-3 run with UC San Diego taking a timeout up 21-17.
- After a service error and a kill by the Tritons, UC San Diego led 23-17 and it seemed a fifth set would be the deciding set of this contest.
- Lewis was able to change its fate with eight unanswered points to not only take the lead but take the match 3-1.
- Throughout the stretch, Prayer had two kills while UC San Diego committed four attack errors.
