AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 15 Lewis University men's volleyball team was unable to come away with the victory in the final day of the First Point Collegiate Challenge as the Flyers lost 3-2 to No. 5 Pepperdine, Saturday (Jan. 21).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Pepperdine 25, Lewis 21
- Pepperdine jumped out to early 6-3 lead in the opening set before Rodriguez-Elias responded with a kill.
- Every time Lewis would get close, the Waves would make the lead bigger.
- The closest Lewis got was when Davis recorded an ace and an attack error by Pepperdine made it 19-18 Waves.
- Pepperdine would close out the first set outscoring the Flyers 6-3 to win 25-21.
SECOND SET: Lewis 31, Pepperdine 29
- Lewis jumped out to early 3-0 lead in the second after back-to-back kills by Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) and Rodriguez-Elias and an ace by Sack.
- The Flyers had a sizeable lead throughout the first half of the set before Pepperdine tied it up 15-all.
- The Waves went on a rally and led 20-18 late in the second set.
- Lewis was able to respond with three straight kills, one from Tyler Simpson (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and two from Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach).
- Both teams would trade points back and forth until it was 29-29 then Rodriguez-Elias and Davis recorded a block then Davis had a kill to win the second set 31-29.
THIRD SET: Pepperdine 25, Lewis 18
- The score was tied 1-1 then Pepperdine started the third set on a 5-1 run.
- Lewis responded right away after scoring six out the next eight points to pull within one.
- Pepperdine pretty much put the set away after going up 17-11 midway through the third set then had a sizeable lead throughout the third set.
- Lewis made it a set again after Davis recorded a service ace to make it 21-17 Pepperdine but the Waves scored three straight to have set point.
FOURTH SET: Pepperdine 25, Lewis 20
- Lewis went up 2-1 early in the fourth set looking to force a fifth but Pepperdine rallied for three straight points and did not squander the lead.
- The Flyers made it 5-4 Pepperdine after a kill from Davis but that was the closest Lewis got the rest of the set.
- Lewis had one more fight in them late after Brillhart, Kauling and Rodriguez-Elias picked up a block to make it 19-16 Pepperdine.
- Pepperdine went on to win the fourth set 25-20 and won the match 3-1.
