(RV) Lewis Men’s Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreak Against Lindenwood Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's volleyball team dropped a five-set matchup against Lindenwood in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association at Neil Carey Arena Friday (Feb. 17).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Lindenwood 25, Lewis 21
  • Both teams went back-and-forth to start the opening set making it 11-all.
  • Lindenwood responded with two straight points before Lewis got two back after Wymoczyl recorded a kill.
  • Moments later, the Lions grabbed a 17-14 lead then the Flyers looked to make a comeback but it was too late.
  • Lindenwood took the opening set 25-21.
SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Lindenwood 22
  • Lewis grabbed a 8-5 lead early in the second set after a kill from Kauling.
  • The Flyers expanded their lead further to 14-8 after a kill by Roquet.
  • Lindenwood tried to crawl back in the second set but Sack converted on a kill to expand the lead out to 20-13.
  • The Lions made it as close as 22-21 in favor of Lewis but the Flyers were able to close it out and win the second set 25-22.
THIRD SET: Lindenwood 25, Lewis 22
  • Both teams traded points again early in the third set before the Flyers went up 15-12 after a block from Haber and Wymoczyl.
  • Lindenwood crawled back and took a 19-17 lead after going on a 7-2 rally.
  • Roquet tried to keep the Flyers in the third set after recording a kill which made it 21-20 but the Lions were able to hold on to win it 25-22.
FOURTH SET: Lewis 25, Lindenwood 20
  • Lindenwood looked to put the match away as the Lions led 9-6 early in the fourth set.
  • Lewis responded with four straight points including three of those from aces by Sack which made it 10-9 Flyers.
  • The Flyers eventually extended their lead out to 15-11 after a kill from Haber.
  • The Lions had one more fight in them as Lindenwood cut it down to 21-19 Lewis late in the fourth set.
  • Lewis was able to get the last four out of five points to win the fourth set 25-20 to force a winner-take-all fifth.
FIFTH SET: Lindenwood 15, Lewis 12
  • Lindenwood started the fifth set with a early 3-0 lead before the Flyers were able to respond and tie it at 5-all.
  • The Lions responded by scoring four straight points which made it 9-5 Lindenwood.
  • Lewis tried to crawl back as the Flyers made it down to 11-9 Lindenwood but it was already too late.
  • Lindenwood won the fifth set 15-12 and won the match 3-2.

FINAL SCORE: Lindenwood 3, Lewis 2
