FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team suffered a setback against George Mason, 3-0, on the first day of the DC Challenge Friday.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: George Mason 25, Lewis 18
- George Mason scored the first two points of the match before Lewis responded with two of their own after a block by Antonio Elias-Rodriguez and Morgan.
- The Patriots went on a 5-1 rally to go ahead 7-3 in the opening set.
- Lewis was able to rally and tie the first set at 12-all after scoring three straight which was started by a kill from Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach).
- GMU responded right away with four straight points to make it 16-12 in favor of the Patriots.
- George Mason would not give up the lead the rest of the way as the Patriots won the opening set 25-18.
SECOND SET: George Mason 25, Lewis 23
- Both teams went back-and-forth to start the second set, making it 5-5.
- Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern) recorded a kill to make it 6-5 then the Patriots scored three unanswered to grab an 8-6 advantage.
- Lewis would try to inch closer from the deficit but George Mason was always one step ahead.
- Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) made it 12-11 GMU after recording a kill but the Patriots were in control.
- GMU made it 22-17 late in the second set before the Flyers scored three straight to cut it down to 22-20.
- The Patriots grabbed a 2-0 set lead after holding off the Flyers to win the second set 25-23.
THIRD SET: George Mason 25, Lewis 19
- George Mason jumped out to a 5-2 lead before Lewis scored three straight capped off by a block from Sack.
- Both teams would trade six points each to make the score evened up at 11-all.
- Roquet recorded a kill to make it 12-11 Flyers before the Patriots scored six straight points to make it 17-12 GMU.
- Lewis had one last fight in them after Syver Drolsum (Vikersund, Norway/Toppvolley Norge) recorded a kill to make it 18-16 Patriots but it was already too late.
- George Mason outscored Lewis 7-3 the rest of the third set to take the match 3-0.
