#14 Lewis Men's Volleyball Bounces Back With Sweep Over Mount Olive Saturday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team bounced back against Mount Olive, 3-0, on the final day of the DC Challenge Saurday.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Lewis 25, Mount Olive 21
  • Both teams each traded nine points each to make it 9-all early in the first set.
  • Mount Olive responded with three straight points then Lewis got three straight of their own.
  • The Trojans led 15-14 midway through the opening set then the Flyers recorded three in a row to make it 17-15.
  • Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) won the opening set for Lewis after recording a kill with a score of 25-21.
SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Mount Olive 14
  • Lewis and Mount Olive both each scored four points before Lewis scored three straight which was capped off by a kill from John Davis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central).
  • The Trojans made it as close as 9-6 Flyers but Lewis scored seven unanswered which was started by a kill from Sack then Prayer recorded a service ace and kill.
  • Lewis was able to pull away throughout the second set after kills from Nathan DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley HS) and Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston).
  • The Flyers took a 2-0 set lead after winning the second set 25-14.
THIRD SET: Lewis 25, Mount Olive 20
  • Lewis led 5-3 early on before the Trojans rallied for three straight points to grab an 6-5 advantage.
  • Mount Olive would go up as much as 10-6 before the Flyers responded and tied it at 11-all after a block by Roquet.
  • Both teams would trade points back-and-forth before Lewis was able to go up 22-19 late in the third set after two straight kills from Davis and a kill by Prayer.
  • Davis was able to win the third set for the Flyers 25-20 and won the match 3-0 after recording a service ace.
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 3, Mount Olive 0

  • Lewis will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 9 as the Flyers travel to Ball State University to take on the Cardinals starting at 6 p.m. CT.
