ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team split its doubleheader against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Quincy at The Dome at Rosemont Saturday (April 1). The Flyers won the first game 3-0 then the Hawks won the second game 2-0.

GAME 1: Lewis 3, Quincy 0
Lewis got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning after
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) hit a sacrifice bunt which scored
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) to make it 1-0.Â
The Flyers extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth after
Toni Rodriguez (Chicago, IL/Nazareth Academy) singled then a Quincy miscue in center allowed
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) and
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) to score.Â
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) (4-2) recorded the victory in the circle after going all seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out three. Â
Wuske was able to escape a jam in the fourth inning after the Hawks had two on and one out but failed to score.Â
GAME 2: Quincy 2, Lewis 0
Lewis was only able to get one hit all game which came from Wuske in the fourth inning.Â
Serena (2-3) suffered the loss in the circle after pitching a complete game after allowing five hits, giving up two runs, walking two and striking out four.Â

Lewis will be back in action at Lewis Softball Field Sunday, April 2 as the Flyers host Illinois-Springfield for a doubleheader starting at noon.
