ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team won their second straight game Thursday (April 6), defeating William Jewell 7-2 at Brennan Field.

SUMMARY
The Flyers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) singled to center field. The center fielder misplayed the ball, allowing
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) to score all the way from first.
The Cardinals answered with a run in the top of the third inning on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.
Lewis took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when
David Ascencio (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) homered to right field on a ball that continued to carry until it went over the fence, scoring both
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) to take a 4-1 lead.
William Jewell cut the deficit to two in the top of the sixth when a walk with the bases loaded scored a run, but Barry got the run right back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run for a 5-2 advantage.
The Flyers tacked on their final two runs in the seventh as Cantelo singled home
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and Barry singled in Fox.
Cantelo and Barry each had two hits to lead the Flyers.
Shane Gorman (Orland Park, Ill./Br. Rice) (1-4) picked up the win, going 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs, striking out three.
Matt Piento (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons) tallied his second save of the season, going 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, striking out seven.
