Lewis Men's Basketball Announces Recruiting Class

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University men's basketball coach Scott Trost announced Thursday (August 3) the addition of nine players for the 2023-24 season.
 

Gene Anderson

  • The forward/center attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. At 6'8, Gene's activity, rebounding, and athleticism aided in Fork Union's prep success.
  •  Was averaging 11 points and 10 rebounds per game prior to suffering a season ending leg injury.


Jabe Haith

  • Haith is a 6'3 guard from Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois. He comes to Lewis off a historical year for Marmion's basketball program, where they earned the school's first sectional championship in 46 years.
  • Haith was a 1,000 point scorer, IHSA 3A All State Honorable Mention and a Kane County All-Area First Team selection.


Austin Kulig     

  • Andrew High School's 6'7 all conference forward, Kulig, comes to Lewis shooting 40% from three-point range his senior season. Kulig won team MVP in his final season at Andrew.


Destin Logan

  • Logan comes to Lewis from Georgia's prep school, The Skills Factory (TSF). Logan, a prep nation champion, helped lead his team to a 38-3 record this past season.
  • His vision and versatility as a 6'4 wing has enabled him to average 16 points, five rebounds and four assists per game. He reached a career-high 32 points against Link academy.

  
Elijah Pickens

  • Pickens is a six foot point guard from Bryant & Stratton junior college and a former Curie Condor from Chicago's west side.
  • He led Bryant & Stratton in assists and steals, all while averaging 13.7 points per game. He helped guide his team to a 26-7 record in 2022-23. 

Ryan Renfro
  • Renfro enters Lewis after a year attending the United States Military Prep School, where he averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game.
  • The 6'7 former Army commit was an integral part for the historic Glenbard West State Championship team in 2022. 

Gary Solomon
  • A Southern Indiana transfer and Detroit native, Solomon played in 30 of the 33 games during his first season at USI, making 13 starts.
  • The 6'6 wing scored a season-high 21 points in the win at Bowling Green University and grabbed a season-best nine rebounds in the win over Southern Illinois University.

Rob Stroud 
  • Standing at 6'5 205lb, guard/forward Rob Stroud enters Lewis from Kankakee Community College. Stroud earned himself First Team All Tournament for NJCAA Region Four, and Second Team All Region.
  • Stroud averaged 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds on the season, all while shooting 58 percent from the floor.

Paxton Warden
  • Warden is a 2022 IHSA state champion from Glenbard West high school. The 6'3 guard started alongside former and now current teammate at Lewis, Ryan Renfro.
  • During 2023 Warden wore the navy blue and orange for the Fighting Illini. While on the team, Warden and the Illini earned an at large bid to the NCAA DI men's basketball tournament as a No. 9 seed.

Lewis men's basketball has won the GLVC conference tournament in 2016 and 2021 and has won GLVC division championships in 2019 and 2022. 

"I think this class will help us get back to competing for championships," Lewis head coach Scott Trost said.  I want to thank coach (Nick) Rocco, coach (Joffrey) Brown, and coach (Joe) Griffin for all their hard work in putting this class together.  All these young men will be great representatives of Lewis University both on and off the court."
